Houston Artist Nabs Tom of Finland Prize
The Tom of Finland Foundation’s worldwide Emerging Erotic Artist Contest has announced their winners for the 2010 competition, and local artist Ronnie L. Davis was awarded second prize in the single-figure category for his painting The Whipping. The work, a dramatic 48 x 36 inch acrylic on canvas (pictured below) depicts a close-shorn young man wielding a wide leather belt, held aloft, mid-swing. The painting is lustrous in color, deftly textured, and electrically evocative. “My goal, as an artist, is to portray our choices in strong, sensual images that intrigue and communicate,” says Davis.
