St. Paul’s United Methodist Church Named A ‘Community Of Respect’ Partner

In early December, the Anti-Defamation League Southwest Region named St. Paul’s United Methodist Church (5401 Fannin Street) a No Place for Hate 2008 Community of Respect Partner—“a place where individuals appreciate each other’s differences and work together to create an atmosphere of respect and understanding.”

With cities becoming more diverse and mass communications being global, “we meet and interact with a broad range of people different from ourselves,” noted the ADL. “We can either profit from the richness of this wider community or we can reject it. This program highlights the benefits of diversity and encourages inclusiveness.”

Among the criteria for earning this designation is the creation of a diversity coalition. According to a statement released by St. Paul’s, the church has long had an active Diversity Task Force within its Church and Society Committee, and has also hosted a broad range of speakers and guests from other religions, plus organizations such as PFLAG.
