Katy Pride hosted a birthday recognition party in honor of the organization’s second year, complete with food by Adrian’s Tacos, dancing, cake, and door prizes for lucky guests.
But just two weeks before Thursday’s birthday party, the original host venue was abruptly forced to cancel due to a family emergency, according to Katy Pride. With a quick shift over to the Katy First Church in Katy, the party was on!
The evening’s community sponsors were The Greater Houston LGBTQ+ Chamber of Commerce and Texas House Representative Jon E. Rosenthal of District 135. Other sponsors included First Church in Katy, The American Silver Museum, Ezee Fiber, and AHF Pharmacy.
In a statement from Representative Rosenthal, “It’s especially important for me to stand with and for these communities. At a time when LGBTQ communities face so many political attacks, I want folks to know I’m here to fight with you and stand together against all that unjust hate and ignorance.”
Speaking with OutSmart about how the group empowers the LGBTQ community in Katy and Greater West Houston, Katy Pride President Amanda M. Rose said, “Having an organization like Katy Pride means knowing there’s a visible, vibrant community that celebrates you exactly as you are. It’s about creating spaces where LGBTQ+ individuals feel supported, seen, and empowered to live authentically; where we can be proud, loud, and know we’re not alone. Our events aren’t just celebrations; they’re acts of love, resistance, and belonging.”
The main Katy Pride celebration is scheduled for October 18. For more information about all the Katy Pride events this year, visit https://katypride.org/
