The Big 5. Male Uwear celebrates its fifth anniversary selling quality men’s underwear and swimwear, including apparel from the aussieBum line. Following the store’s big anniversary sidewalk sale, May 15, 1–5 p.m., the store hosts a cocktail/underwear party, May 18, 12–8 p.m. when customers wearing just their underwear receive 40 percent off their purchases. Fully clothed customers save 20 percent on their purchases that day, according to the company’s president, Tim Wilde. Open Design. Cabinets & Designs, a provider of quality custom cabinetry and kitchen designs for more than 37 years, opened its new showroom on March 31. The 1600-square-foot “Lifestyle Designs” showroom features multiple large kitchen vignettes in styles ranging from traditional to extremely contemporary, with professionals available to assist customers in choosing the products to fit their homes and budgets. Well-heeled Art. On March 25, Cole Haan in Houston’s Highland Village featured artist John Ross Palmer at an event that benefited Soles4Souls, an organization that has distributed more than 8 million shoes to people in need internationally. Guests donated new or gently used pairs of shoes and, in turn, received 20 percent off purchases. An original Palmer painting was auctioned at the event. soles4souls.org.

Early Networkers. Marian LaSalle and Becky Earle, co-owners respectively of Painted Path Designs, have announced the launch of Referral Business Builders. The new weekly networking group offers small-business owners an opportunity “to get to know the other business owners so they can refer them to their family, friends, clients, and co-workers,” LaSalle says. The group meets on Thursdays, 8–9:30 a.m., at Café Express, 210 Meyerland Plaza. Legal Maneuvers. Frye and Associates has announced the hiring of two new attorneys to its Greenway Plaza-area law firm. Angela Oaks, a graduate of the University of Houston Law Center, joins Frye and Associates as a Family Law attorney, representing clients with divorce (uncontested and contested), child custody and parenting agreements, child support, adoptions, paternity, and other matters. Darrell M. Steidley also joins the firm, assisting clients with civil litigation and business formation cases. Beautiful Music News. Owner Richard Dowling has announced the opening of a second branch of Dowling Music, a retail store providing printed sheet music, gifts, and musical accessories “created by musicians for musicians.” The new store is located on the second floor of Steinway Hall on W. 57th Street in New York City, across the street from Carnegie Hall. Grand opening is tentatively scheduled for the end of May. Locally, the store is located at 2615 Southwest Freeway, Suite #220.
