LGBT Medicare Mammogram Day

The Lesbian Health Initiative Hosts LGBT Medicare Mammogram Day

The Lesbian Health Initiative (LHI) announced that it will host its first-ever LGBT Medicare Mammogram Day on March 18 from 10 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. at Houston Area Community Services (HACS). LHI will be providing no-cost, LGBT-friendly, safe, and secure screening mammograms for LGBT-identified women and transgender men who are eligible for Medicare.

These screenings can be lifesaving, LHI Senior Outreach Navigation Specialist Aurora Harris said, as lesbian, gay, and bisexual women are at high risk for breast cancer and African-American women have the highest mortality rates. “We all know someone who needs a mammogram,” LHI CEO Liz James said. “Please tell folks you know about LHI’s LGBT Medicare Mammogram Day. That’s how simple it is to change and save lives!”

Pre-registration for LHI’s LGBT Medicare Mammogram Day is open and required, as spots are limited. Those interested can register online at lhihouston.org, by emailing [email protected], or by calling 713.426.3356. Upon registering, please let LHI know if you will need transportation assistance. —Megan Smith
