Reliant Stadium Getting New High-Tech Scoreboards

HOUSTON (AP)—The home of the Houston Texans will have two new high-definition LED scoreboards for the 2013 season.

The board of the Harris County Sports and Convention Corporation on Wednesday approved the $15.5 million purchase for Reliant Stadium.

Backers say the upgraded digital scoreboards from Mitsubishi Electric will help bolster efforts for Reliant Stadium to host the Super Bowl in 2017.

The new scoreboards will be 52 feet tall and 277 feet wide. Mitsubishi officials say the scoreboards, with 14,549 feet of display surface, will be the widest display in professional sports.

Hotel and motel taxes plus auto rental fees will help pay for the scoreboards.

Reliant Stadium is also home to the annual Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.
