The Music Box Theater’s next target is fairy tales. With, “Happily Ever at the Box,” the company spoofs the fairy tale genre like no one else can!

The new production, which opens Friday, Aug. 10, combines original sketch comedy plus popular pop/rock and standard songs from across the decades, including Disney music, in a cabaret theater setting. The show runs from Aug. 10 to Oct. 13, 2012, and then from Nov. 16-24, 2012.

Joining The Music Box Theater is its newest cast member Kristina Sullivan, a popular mainstay in the Houston theater community as an actor, singer, writer, director and teacher. For many years, she performed at the Hobby Center in musicals including “My Fair Lady,” “Jane Eyre,” “Sunday in the Park with George” and “Camelot.” She studied vocal performance and psychology at the University of Houston. Additionally, she will head up the theater’s newly formed Music Box Young Artists program. This is an educational program for students K-12 designed to explore the heart of great music and theater and help students connect to self, community, fellow artists and the truth of the moment.

Tickets for “Happily Ever at the Box” are $35 for reserved seating and $25 for general admission and are available online at themusicboxtheater.com or by calling (713) 522-7722. Performances are at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays. Shows are appropriate for all audiences.

The Music Box Theater’s intimate cabaret is at 2623 Colquitt in the heart of Upper Kirby. This storied venue was the original home of Radio Music Theater. Since The Music Box Theater opened its doors in May 2011, audiences have been dazzled and amused by the incredible talents of each of the five stellar performers in its cast: Rebekah Dahl and Brad Scarborough (founders); Luke Wrobel; Cay Taylor; and Sullivan. Also supporting the cast is G Sharp and the MBT Three–an amazing four-piece band.
