LHI’s 10th Annual Celebration of Love Gala honors Dorothy Gibbons, founder and chief executive officer of The Rose.

LHI Celebrates Milestones with Valentine’s Gala

The women of Lesbian Health Initiative Houston celebrate dual anniversaries in February with the 10th Annual Celebration of Love Gala, and the 20-year anniversary of the organization itself.

A popular annual social event for Houston lesbians and LHI’s chief fundraising event, the gala is scheduled February 11, returning to Doubletree Hotel Houston Downtown.

“It is an amazing feeling to be celebrating all the lives that have been changed and saved in the 20 years since LHI began in 1992,” LHI Executive Director Liz James said. “It is also an amazing feeling to have the opportunity to come together as a community for a wonderful and fun evening, to help provide necessary funds so that LHI can continue its mission to eliminate more barriers to healthcare for more LGBT women.”

In addition to toasting 20 years of providing lifechanging and lifesaving health and wellness services for LGBT women, LHI honors its long-time advocate Dorothy Weston Gibbons, co-founder and chief executive officer of The Rose. LHI partners with The Rose in two annual health fairs, providing mammograms and wellness information to attendees.

The gala also features entertainment from the iconic lesbian comedian Suzanne Westenhoefer; Austin-based singer/songwriter Ginger Leigh returns as emcee. A seated dinner, dancing, silent auction, and a raffle of a hot pink Vitacci 50cc Retro Scooter, courtesy of Apollo Scooters, complete the evening.

“Last year, LHI hosted our best and most successful annual gala event ever. It was a full house!” James said. “We expect to be sold out again as we celebrate our 20th year—we’ve a wonderful black tie-and-boots evening planned!”
