Texas Warrant Round Up Grace Period Ends March 4

HOUSTON, Texas –    The City of Houston’s Municipal Courts and Police Departments, along with dozens of Gulf Coast law enforcement entities, announced Friday, February 18, 2011 their participation in the upcoming “2011 Great Texas Warrant Round-Up.” Friday, March 4, 2011 is the last day to resolve warrant cases before the grace period officially comes to an end.

HPD, Harris County Constables, and law enforcement from surrounding agencies in Brazoria, Fort Bend, Galveston, Liberty, Montgomery, Waller and Wharton Counties will join other regional participants in this statewide annual event, which officially begins Saturday, March 5, 2011, to look for individuals in their cities with outstanding warrants.

The City of Houston Municipal Courts alone has thousands of active warrants it is seeking to clear. Over one hundred thousand notices were mailed to Houston Municipal Court defendants with active warrants.

“After we made this announcement two weeks ago, many people stepped forward and took this opportunity to resolve their court matters. Unfortunately, many others are still in warrant status and remain under the threat of arrest. Citizens are encouraged to either call us or come in and discuss your case with a Judge or a prosecutor to learn about the many options available for case resolution,” said Presiding Judge Barbara E. Hartle.

Once the warrant period begins March 5th, HPD officers will aggressively target those persons on the warrant list and arrests can take place at any location, including the defendant’s home, school or workplace.

Citizens with warrants in jurisdictions other than the City of Houston should contact those jurisdictions for information about how to clear those warrants. A complete list of participating Regional Partners can be found at www.houstontx.gov/courts.
