Kindred Spirits Foundation Sets New Record

As many as 1,000 guests attended Kindred Spirits Foundation’s annual dance held August 28 at SPJST Ballroom in The Heights. This year’s event celebrated the 30th anniversary of the opening of Kindred Spirits, a 1980s-era nightclub “for women and their friends,” continuing the legacy of “giving women a chance to lead better and happier lives,” said KSF board president Marion Coleman.

Among those starting the evening at KSF’s pre-gala donor’s reception were Houston Mayor Annise D. Parker and her partner Kathy Hubbard, as well as guests from California, New York, throughout the Gulf Coast region, and all across Texas.

The event raised funds for AssistHers, Bering Support Network, Houston Buyers Club, and Lesbian Health Initiative–Houston.

Kindred Spirits Foundation closes its yearlong roster of 30th anniversary events with its annual Judy Garland Christmas Show & Sing-Along, set for December 5 at Meteor. kindredspiritshouston.org. — Nancy Ford
