LHI’s Liz James to Attend White House LGBT Pride Reception

LGBT-supportive presidential administrations traditionally host an official reception during Pride Month, recognizing the achievements of the country’s outstanding LGBT organizations. This June is no exception, and this year, Houstonians celebrating Pride have extra reason to be proud.

LHI-Houston has announced that its chief executive officer, Liz James has been invited by President Barack Obama to attend the 2012 White House reception celebrating LGBT Pride Month. On June 15, James joins the president and other LGBT leaders from across the country for the special commemoration in Washington D.C.

“I am very honored to have received an invitation to attend the President’s reception to represent LHI and the LGBT women and trans-men we serve,” James said. “This administration has taken unprecedented steps to pursue real solutions to the barriers to LGBT healthcare. From the LGBT inclusive Affordable Care Act provisions, to the hospital visitation policy, to the first White House Conference on LGBT Health that I attended in February this year, to U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius leading a “Breaking Down Barriers” panel discussion on health care for LGBT persons in Geneva at the 65th World Health Assembly on May 21, to this invitation to represent LHI at a White House reception: the commitment to healthcare equality is groundbreaking, focused and clear.”
