Vacationing for a cause—sounds trite, doesn’t it? But Olivia Travel, “the world’s largest travel company offering chartered cruise, resort, adventure, and luxury vacations specifically for the lesbian community,” is aiming to help you do just that. The company is deepening their partnership with activist Olga Murray as part of their Thanksgiving Caribbean Cruise.
Murray, 89, is well known internationally for her work aiding Nepalese children through the creation of the Nepal Youth Foundation (NYF). She worked for most of her life as an attorney and spent 37 years with the California State Supreme Court. In 1984, Murray first visited Nepal, and upon viewing the widespread poverty and malnutrition among the village children, she decided she wanted to return and try to help. Since 1990, the NYF has worked tirelessly to provide care and opportunities for Nepalese children
in need. Perhaps most notably, the NYF chartered an initiative to end girls being forced into domestic slavery. The Indentured Daughters Program has helped to rescue over 12,000 girls since 2000.
So where do the buffet and poolside entertainment come in? Olivia Travel, operating since 1990 and based out of San Francisco, has only recently begun collaborating with the NYF in May of this year and has already raised $60,000 for their cause. They have also invited Murray herself to join their Thanksgiving Caribbean Cruise, which departs Tampa, Florida, on November 23 for a seven-day tour of Cozumel, Mexico; Roatan, Honduras; and San Gill Hill Natural Reserve in Guatemala. But even before the ship leaves the dock, guests will be treated to a performance by Grammy-winning singer Bonnie Raitt. On board, out celebrity chefs Josie Smith-Malave and Tiffani Faison will provide a world-class dining experience.
