Eating Fire: My Life as a Lesbian Avenger

UMN14 Kogswell Eating Fire R1.inddBy Kelly Cogswell
Review by Angel Curtis

We have far too few written histories of the nuts and bolts of lesbian activism in the United States. Eating Fire is Kelly Cogswell’s attempt to fill that gap. Sadly, the attempt falls flat due to total editorial inadequacy. There is simply no excuse for this, because Cogswell has a way with words and a delightful storytelling voice (“rats so big they only left paw prints on the glue traps”). So, buy this book for the facts, lament the lack of a good story, and understand that the flaws are editorial. University of Minnesota Press (upress.umn.edu).
