This slim volume provides a home for the stories of Latino gay men and transgender women to share their struggles directly with the reader. These stories are simply told and have the passion that comes with telling one’s deepest truth. The concept of “compañero” runs through the book and shows the solidarity of the people who make up the movement for not only the gay community but for the ethnic one. While this book is an important addition to the history of AIDS activism, what will stay with me is the transformation these people experienced while trying to live truly authentic lives.
