DIED Clara Charlotte Koepsel, born August 26, 1931, to George and Viola Lewis in Santa Fe, New Mexico, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2008, in Katy, Texas. A Houston resident for nearly 30 years, Clair, as friends called her, was a highly visible and active presence in Houston’s gay community, specifically due to her association with AIDS Foundation Houston, Hollyfield Foundation, and numerous other organizations. She leaves a legacy of countless friends though her volunteerism. Clair is survived by daughters Monika Menczer and Michelle Luna, and by four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A rosary and memorial service was held June 30 in the Chapel of Heights Funeral Home. A celebration of life honoring her memory was later held at the Heights-area home of Neil Sackheim.
