Seniors in the School of Art Sculpture Block Program present “How Should I Put This?” at the South Park Annex at the University of Houston. The exhibition will be on view for one evening only, from 6 – 9 p.m. The exhibition will feature works by: Phillip Glaze Bill Kelley Tōbē Nelson Jacob Villalobos The themes that these four students tackle through the works in this show are varied as the materials and techniques used to produce them. Tōbē combines embroidered fabric forms with carefully crafted ceramic faces to explore the way people relate to the world that they inhabit. Phillip conducts an exploration of social and cultural phenomena by bringing private exchanges into unlikely, staged encounters. Jacob mixes a variety of waste materials with cement and casts them in cylindrical forms to make core samples. These samples bring to mind the connection between our place in a disposable culture and the effects of time and change. Bill takes discarded, found objects and mashes them up to create whimsical, absurd art systems.
