For the Houston Cinema Arts Festival 2020, Houston Cinema Arts Society features virtual and drive-in screenings of films in addition to live stream performances, interactive experiences, and Q&A and panels. This year, HCAF celebrates “Urbana,” inspired by the globally popular Spanish-language genre música Urbana, which has its origin in African and the trans-Atlantic slave trade.
As a part of the Houston Cinema Arts Festival 2020 (Nov 12 – Nov 22), the live-streamed screening of Friday I’m In Love: A Night at Numbers will be available at 7:30 PM on Nov 20. Marcus Pontello crosses generations to explore the history of Numbers Nightclub, a counter-cultural landmark in Houston, Texas, that has been open since 1978. Told through the voices of those who have helped to envision Numbers and those who continue to cultivate and expand its legacy of acceptance, this love letter of a documentary pays tribute to the music and the people that keep Numbers alive every Friday night. This work-in-progress excerpt screening will be accompanied by a multi-media panel discussion and LIVE DJ set by DJ ESTEFF (Stephanie St. Sanchez).
