Mika: The Origin of Love

This openly gay composer of “artist-driven, alternative pop music” is now in a happy relationship, and his exuberance is evident. The opener/title tune is poppy, peppy, multi-layered, and highly optimistic—expect gay choruses worldwide to request arrangements. Pharrel guests on “Celebrate,” but the quirky, brutal honest “Love You When I’m Drunk” lyrically emerges as our favorite. Universal Republic Records (universalrepublic.com) — by Nancy Ford
