ACLU Announces New Legal Director

HELENA, Mont. – The ACLU of Montana is naming a former state legislator from Missoula to be the group’s new legal director.

The ACLU says that Jon Ellingson has been hired to lead its legal activities. Ellingson is a former assistant attorney general. Before that he served stints in both the state House and Senate as a Democrat representing Missoula.

Ellingson will help lead such cases as the ACLU’s support of six gay couples seeking the same legal protections as married pairs.

The ACLU says former legal director Betsy Griffing left in the fall to pursue a private practice.
