Just Between Us
Author: J.H. Trumble
Review by Angel Curtis
Curtis has just returned to Houston after a year of too many drinks and too many men at UT in Austin. Having been a drum major in high school, he gets a job helping out with his alma mater’s marching band before he tries again at Sam Houston State. During a band practice he meets Luke, the adorable band kid who just can’t get it right. The two hit it off, and a friendship with a promise of romance develops. The predictable tragedies ensue when Curtis discovers his bad case of the flu is an HIV infection. This book is well-crafted and a poignant reminder that how we treat HIV doesn’t change how we feel about it. Kensington Books (kensingtonbooks.com).
