Among the twenty short fiction pieces and essays that editor Steve Berman has included in this anthology are a few diamonds, a couple of diamonds in the rough, and a few that are just plain rough. However, Alex Jeffers’s “. . . Salt for Sorrow, Blood for Joy” stands out, as does Eddie Sarfaty’s “Next Year at Sonny’s.” Both will have you turning the pages quickly. When it comes to current gay fiction, it’s nice to have one tidy package that brings you many shining examples of the talent in the community. Lethe Press (lethepress.com). —Jack Berger
