Former Principal Accuses District of Retaliation

CHEYENNE, Wyo. – A former Sheridan County principal who testified on behalf of two lesbians fired by the school district claims in a federal lawsuit that he lost his job as retaliation.

The Casper Star-Tribune reports that Michael Kadera is suing Sheridan County School District 2. Kadera worked for the school district for 15 years and was terminated after the 2009-2010 school year.

In 2005, Kadera gave a deposition in a federal court lawsuit filed by two former administrators who sued the district for violating their civil rights. The two women who lived and worked together claimed the superintendents denied their contract extensions because they are lesbians.

A Wyoming jury ruled for the two women, but the verdict was later overturned by the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
