Legendary movie star and OutSmart cover girl Debbie Reynolds (September 1998) appears in an all-new episode of Hollywood Treasure airing Wednesday, June 15, at 9 p.m. on Syfy. Reynolds pioneered movie prop and costume collecting nearly 50 years ago, amassing the largest private collection in the world. “Debbie Reynolds blazed the trail and got me interested in doing what I do today,” said Joe Maddalena, owner of Profiles in History.

Reynolds’s dream to open a museum and share Hollywood history with the public will not be realized, so she has decided to put her entire collection up for auction, and has chosen Maddalena’s company for the job. “The reason I decided on Profiles in History is because they have the right heart and love for these beautiful costumes and props,” said Reynolds.

Maddalena takes stock of her massive inventory, which includes the original Arabian style Wizard of Oz ruby slippers, and Marilyn Monroe’s iconic subway-scene dress from The Seven Year Itch, which Maddalena estimates to be valued in the millions.

“This is part of history and it should be preserved and saved,” said Reynolds of her collection. “I am just grateful that we have this to present to the public.”

Hollywood Treasure is a weekly reality series that delves into the fast-paced world of showbiz and pop culture memorabilia collecting, including science fiction and fantasy props and costumes.  The series follows Joe Maddalena, owner of Profiles in History and the world’s largest auctioneer of original movie, television, and pop culture collectibles.  All new back-to-back episodes air Wednesdays at 9 and 9:30 p.m. on Syfy.
