Idaho Group Launches New Push to Win GLBT Rights

BOISE, Idaho – A group that unsuccessfully pushed Idaho lawmakers in 2011 to hear a bill that would ban workplace and housing discrimination against people who are gay, lesbian or transgender has resumed those efforts with a new campaign.

Activists peppered the door of a Senate committee with sticky notes earlier this year, calling for a hearing on the bill. But lawmakers said there wasn’t enough support among Idaho’s conservative Legislature to advance the measure.

The Idaho Statesman reports the group behind those efforts has launched a campaign called “Add the Words,” with a website directing supporters to send lawmakers a sticky note either electronically or by mail.

Idaho law now forbids discrimination based on race, sex, religion, color, national origin and mental or physical disabilities.
