2 Colo. Teens Charged With Bias-Motivated Crime

DENVER – Two Arvada teens face charges in Denver alleging they attacked two people after yelling gay slurs at them.

Eighteen-year-old Joseph Murphy and 19-year-old Zachary Kocman are each charged with carrying out a bias-motivated crime and third-degree assault.

Prosecutors allege that on the afternoon of July 18, the two drove by a 25-year-old victim and a friend as they were walking in northwest Denver and yelled slurs before chasing the victim and assaulting him.

Murphy and Kocman were free Monday on a $3,000 bond. Phone numbers for them weren’t listed, and they couldn’t be reached for comment.
