Summer Studios Opening & Community Market

Project Row Houses Floyd Newsum Summer Studios allows art majors from local universities the opportunity to develop a studio practice with support from a cohort of their peers and input from a team of artist mentors.
This year’s cohort brings together the voices of ten diverse undergraduate and recently graduated artists whose work speaks directly to the urgency, complexity, and fragility of our times. Spanning visual art, time-based media, architecture, and performance, this dynamic exhibition explores how contemporary creators are processing the cultural and sociological nuances of identity and imagination.
From intimate gestures of resistance to sweeping architectural visions, each installation is a form of response. Together, these works reflect a collective reckoning with the changing times. Exhibiting artists include Yijun Huang, Giuliana Velez, Celeste Francis, Isabel Sanchez, Marshall Bradley, Kamryn Sterling, Goodnews Nwankwo, Haley Jackson, Josh Peterson, and Kaviya Ravikumar. Special mention to this year’s mentors Tay Butler, YungChris, and Preston Gaines.
The Opening and Community Market begins at 4pm. Each artist will speak briefly about their works during Porch Talks which start at 4:30pm.
The event is family-friendly and free to attend.
After the opening, the installations will be on view Wednesdays to Sundays from noon until 5pm through September 21st in the Art Houses at Project Row Houses at 2521 Holman Street, Houston, Texas 77004.
