ROCO In Concert: Fragrant Memories

November 1 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
$35

ROCO continues its 21st season and Albert and Margaret Alkek Foundation In Concert Series with Fragrant Memories, a program steeped in remembrance, resilience, and sonic storytelling, conducted by Artistic Partner Mei-Ann Chen. The concert takes place on Saturday, November 1, 5:00 p.m., at The Church of St. John the Divine.

Traversing both spectral and sacred sound worlds, ROCO premieres Anthony DiLorenzo’s rescores of Toccata and Fugue in D minor by J.S. Bach and Maurice Ravel’s La Valse. John Wineglass also returns with a newly commissioned work, Sacred Ground, a meditation on the identity and spiritual refuge found within Houston’s historic Freedmen’s Town. The concert explores deep emotional undercurrents with David T. Little’s Haunted Topography, a haunting reflection on memory and loss, and Juan Pablo Contreras’ La Minerva, featuring guest concertmaster and violin soloist Laura Frautschi. The evening closes with Ludwig Van Beethoven’s unfinished Symphony No. 10, constructed from sketches by composer Barry Cooper.

Costumes encouraged! This concert features a Halloween-themed ROCOrooters program. Children will enjoy a fun-filled music lesson, a trip into the concert hall, and up to 5 hours of supervision by certified childcare professionals, while caregivers enjoy the concert and a date night!
