Hands-on Houston: Prayer Pouches

August 2 @ 11:00 am - 3:00 pm
Free

Join us for a celebration of Sonya Clark’s Beaded Prayers Project, her longest-running collaborative artwork! Learn simple sewing techniques to create two sealed beaded packets containing a wish, hope, dream, blessing, or prayer on a piece of paper encased in cloth and adorned with at least one bead on the outer surface. HCCC will add one of your packets to the Beaded Prayers Project on display at Houston Museum of African American Culture and you can take the other home to wear as an amulet!

Note: This activity will take place indoors and is on a first-come, first-served basis, while supplies last.

HANDS-ON HOUSTON is a free drop-in event held the first Saturday of every month (except in January and July). Each month, a teaching artist or guild demonstrates a craft related to the current exhibitions. Community members of all ages are welcome to come any time between 11 AM and 3 PM and participate in a 15–20-minute activity. Materials are provided. This program supports HCCC’s mission to advance education about the process, product, and history of craft.
