Students at The High School for the Performing and Visual Arts (HSPVA) are travelling back in time as they celebrate Black History Month with an electrifying performance of Soul of the ‘70s, featuring some of your favorite songs from the greatest decade of soul music. This feel-good show will have you clapping your hands, tapping your feet and singing – you may even want to get up and dance in the aisles! So allow yourself to take the hippest trip with us and don’t forget to bring your mind, body and SOUL!
Co-directing the production are Anthony Boggess-Glover and Broderick “Brod. J” Jones. Boggess-Glover is a 1987 graduate of HSPVA’s Vocal Department whose professional credits include the Houston Grand Opera, the Texas Opera Theatre and TUTS. Jones is the founder and Artistic Director of Talented Tenth Theatre, a production company focused on providing students with professional training in theatre and film.
Stephanie York Blue is the production’s Music Director. Blue is a 1981 graduate of HSPVA’s Instrumental Music Program and has been teaching at HISD for more than 30 years. Courtney D. Jones, who will serve as the Choreographer, is a 1999 graduate of HSPVA’s Dance Program. Her professional credits include Broadway’s first national tour of Wicked and Hope Stone Dance.
