Día De Los Muertos – Short Film Showcase (FREE Admission)

The Houston Latino Film Festival is happy to be a part of the Lawndale Art Center’s 30th annual DÍA DE LOS MUERTOS art exhibition. We are proud to present a collection of short films representative of some of the themes celebrated during Día de los Muertos. Some stories deal with grief, the afterlife, the journey to accept, and the many manifestations of Death – some good, and some terrifying. We have a great mix of genres from talented filmmakers from around the world. Admission is FREE.

“DECOROSA” (Spain) – 2016 / Drama-Comedy / 12 min
Synopsis:
Decorosa keeps a skeleton costume in her bedroom closet, between the nightgowns. That’s what love is about.

“SALT” (Brazil) – 2016 / Thriller / 15 min
Synopsis:
Marcio is a solitary mid-30s computer technician that meets Sergio, an intriguing middle-age architect, in a website where people share a strange fantasy. Marcio builds up courage and decides to meet Sergio in person for a date. At Sergio’s apartment, Marcio will have to agree to the terms established by the architect in order to have his dream come true. The night will culminate in an irreversible experience.

“WINDOWS” (USA) – 2016 / Sci-Fi / 12 min
Synopsis:
Two isolated women bond by sharing their lives from a distance through their apartment windows. They are blocks apart, but despite their efforts, will never meet. Two women. Two windows. Two realities.

“BULLETPROOF” (Mexico) – 2015 / Animation-Action / 5 min
Synopsis:
Between the struggle of war, a brave boy who lost everything decides to confront death, so she grants him one last prize before leaving the land of living.

“CAMPO SANTO” (Mexico) – 2016 / Drama / 10 min
Synopsis:
A lonely man starts a journey in search of a priest to baptize the body of his deceased newborn child in order to save his soul and if possible bring him to life. During his passage the man faces loneliness and death, while carrying in his arms the lifeless body of his son, still with a futile hope for a miracle.

“BETTY” (USA) – 2016 / Horror-Comedy / 10 min
Synopsis:
“A woman bullied by a clique of bake sale mean girls takes action.”
Betty, an amateur baker who’s lost her beloved cat, tries to fit into the world of local bake off
competitions by attempting to befriend a group of mean girls. She soon learns that the loss of her cat and recent disqualification from the final competition were no accident. Betty decides to take matters into her own hands and seeks revenge on those who’ve made her life a living hell.

“ZERCH” (Mexico) – 2015 / Drama and Horror / 7 min
Synopsis:
Zerch asks his boyfriend Cano to do something terrible for him. Cano, driven by an excessive love, agrees without knowing he is about to sacrifice more than he imagined.
