Presented in conversation with SNMA Executive Director Hunter O’Hanian, Aaron and Emma will discuss why older LGBTQ people need the Equality Act.

About Aaron Tax
Aaron Tax (pronouns he/him) is the Director of Advocacy for SAGE. He advocates for LGBT-inclusive federal aging policies that account for the unique needs of LGBT older adults. Previously, he was the Legal Director at Service members Legal Defense Network.
About Emma Bessire
Emma (pronouns she/they) is the grassroots organizer for SAGE and works to mobilize SAGE’s constituents, members of the aging network, and other allies to ensure the dignity and respect LGBT older adults across the nation deserve. Their work previously includes organizing at Swing Left, the Center for Popular Democracy, and NARAL.

Currently, 28 states don’t have any protections from discrimination in place for LGBTQ people. Comprehensive protections from discrimination at the federal level, like the Equality Act, would change that.
