A Stranger I Arrive, A Stranger I Depart
Schubert’s Winterreise
Tyler Duncan, baritone; Sarah Rothenberg, piano
“I cannot choose the time of my journey, I must make my own way in this darkness.” – from Winterreise’s opening song, Good-Night
Schubert’s stunning song cycle of a solitary wanderer without shelter is presented in the context of Lebanon-born Palestinian artist Mona Hatoum’s groundbreaking installations, which explore the fragility of home in a world torn apart by war and exile. Metropolitan Opera baritone Tyler Duncan makes his Houston debut.
Presented in conjunction with the Menil Collection’s exhibition Mona Hatoum: Terra Infirma, on view October 13, 2017 to February 25, 2018
