El Bambi announces the second event in their monthly art series, Brilliant Disguise
Houston’s newest vintage store is having a costume themed art opening on Sunday October 30.

Houston, TX — Lindsay Beale and Emily Hynds teamed up recently to open El Bambi on July 2, Houston’s newest vintage store with an in-house tailor at 4721 North Main, Unit G. El Bambi provides curated vintage clothing and accessories for men, women, and children.

Beale and Hynds knew from the start that they wanted to incorporate a monthly event that celebrates the community that has been so supportive of them while starting up. They asked Eric Castorena to help curate a themed monthly art show that would feature 10-20 Houston artists, offer affordable pieces for young collectors, and celebrate a different theme each month that compliments the look and feel of the store. The first one, But I Haven’t Got a Stitch to Wear, was September 25 and a total success. “It’s important to us to honor the community that was so supportive of us while we were opening up,” says Hynds. “An art show seems like the perfect opportunity to do just that.”

Eric Castorena is a designer, illustrator, maker of things and occasional joke teller who has been active in the Houston community for years. Eric originally reached out to Beale and Hynds to see if they needed any artwork for the shop itself but when they countered with asking him to curate a monthly event, he enthusiastically said…heck yes! “I have been taking part in group shows like this for years and taking little notes and making observations. Now it’s time to turn my research into practice!”

The second incarnation of the monthly show, A Brilliant Disguise, will take place at El Bambi on Sunday October 30 from 6-9pm. There will be a spooky punch (duh of course there will be dry ice), beer provided by Buffalo Bayou Brewing Company, music, and costume themed artwork from 10-20 up and coming Houston artists. 100% of art sales go to artists, so each piece should be reasonably priced to sell. Costumes are encouraged and if you need help putting something together, feel free to stop by El Bambi in the coming month to get prepared.

“Working with Eric to put together these events has been such a pleasure. We all just really love Houston and the people here and can’t wait to celebrate this community more,” says Beale. In addition to stopping by the party, Beale and Hynds hope that patrons visit the neighboring businesses Morningstar Coffee, Canard for a cocktail and dinner at Foreign Correspondents.

El Bambi, located at 4721 North Main, Unit G, Houston TX, is open Wednesday through Saturday 11am to 8pm and Sunday 12pm to 6pm.
