Thursday, February 9, 2017 @ 3:00 pm - Sunday, February 12, 2017 @ 5:00 pm$112
The University of Houston Moores School of Music presents the 34th Annual International Piano Festival — a thrilling weekend of recitals and master classes with three of the world’s great keyboard performers.
The annual International Piano Festival (IPF), hosted by the UH Moores School of Music, is known for bringing world-class talent to the city of Houston each spring. For its 34th year, the IPF is proud to announce that three of the world’s leading pianists — Lucas Debargue, Danny Driver, and Ann Schein — will deliver four days of recitals and master classes to the UH campus.
Legendary pianist, nonagenarian, and founder of the IPF Abbey Simon will kick off the festival, gracing the stage for his first performance after a hiatus due to a recent accident. His recital will include works by Mozart, Beethoven, Ravel, and Chopin.
Simon will be followed by Debargue, the French pianist who stirred audiences and critics during the 2015 International Tchaikovsky Competition. Debargue, who has been praised for his “incredible gift, artistic vision, and creative freedom,” will perform works by Scarlatti, Chopin, Ravel, and Medtner. Driver, one of Britain’s most respected and versatile pianists lauded for his “impeccable technique and musicianship,” will perform works by Ligeti and Debussy. American pianist Schein will round out the weekend with a poetic recital. Her performance will include works by Chopin, for which she has received numerous distinguished honors, in addition to classics by Beethoven and Schumann.
The IPF will take place from February 9 – 12, 2017 at the UH Moores Opera House and Dudley Recital Hall.
It is open to the public and ticket information can be found at http://www.uh.edu/cota/music/events-performances/piano-festival/. Packages and single tickets are available, with discounted rates for students and seniors.
