WHAT:
More than 40,000 Houstonians will participate in the Heart & Stroke Walk this November in support of the American Heart Association’s fight against heart disease and stroke. Bigger than ever before, the Heart & Stroke Walk will take place again at Houston’s premier venue, NRG Park (formerly known as Reliant Park). The walk will feature family fun and physical fitness to promote walking as a part of a healthy lifestyle while raising funds to support cardiovascular research and educational programs for the American Heart Association. The Heart & Stroke Walk is part of the Association’s My Heart. My Life Platform.

Festivities will begin at 8 a.m.; Opening ceremonies at 9 a.m.; Walk begins at 9:30 a.m.
WHY:
Heart disease and stroke — the nation’s No. 1 and No. 5 killers — and all other cardiovascular diseases, claim 787,000American lives a year. That’s about one of every three deaths in America. The American Heart Association’s goal is $3.6 million for the 2015 Houston Heart & Stroke Walk. Research funded by the American Heart Association has yielded or contributed to many important innovations such as CPR, life-extending drugs (including clot-busters), pacemakers, bypass surgery, the heart-lung machine and surgical techniques to repair heart defects.
COST:
FREE! To participate in the annual event, walkers can register online by visiting www.houstonheartwalk.org. There is no registration fee, but donations are appreciated. Fundraisers who secure a minimum of $100 will receive a free event T-shirt. Everyone is invited to walk as part of a company team or their own team with family and friends
