Legacy Community Health Statement on Planned Parenthood Funding Cuts

Legacy Community Health is proud to stand with Planned Parenthood. At a time when millions of Texans remain uninsured and Texas has chosen not to expand Medicaid, reducing the number of healthcare providers is a concerning and potentially devastating decision.

“Planned Parenthood-Gulf Coast has been providing high quality care for women and men for over 80 years. The Texas Medicaid system is already strained due to a shortage of providers who are willing and able to work with the system. Forcing the over 13,000 clients that Planned Parenthood serves via Medicaid every year to find an alternative provider could potentially result in them falling out of care,” says Katy Caldwell, Executive Director of Legacy Community Health.

Despite this decision to limit access to affordable care, Legacy firmly believes that access to health care is a right, not a privilege. Pursuant to this philosophy, Legacy remains an ardent supporter of Planned Parenthood-Gulf Coast, a trusted health care provider for women and men across the Houston region.

“Planned Parenthood is a trusted provider for many low-income Texans who rely on Medicaid. If this decision is not overturned by the courts there will be dire consequences for public health in Texas,” says Caldwell.
