‘The Boys from Eighth and Carpenter’ by Tony Mendicino

1 BoysFromEighthThis is such a beautifully crafted tale that it is hard to know where to begin. Michael and Frankie are brothers in a stereotypical working-class Philadelphia Italian family. Michael leaves the neighborhood, goes to law school, marries well, and is removed from the lives of his family. Frankie stays, takes over the family business, and cares for their abusive father. A bad decision causes criminal trouble, and Michael must struggle to determine how to help Frankie without giving up his life away from the neighborhood. Kensington (kensingtonbooks.com).
