Obituary Notice: Rene Thomas Weaver

December 9, 1957 – September 4, 2015

Rene Thomas Weaver, 57, passed away peacefully at his home on September 4, 2015. He was born December 9, 1957 in San Antonio, Texas, to parents Manuel Villabubio and Lucia Verastvegui, and raised by David W. and Lucy Weaver.

Rene was raised in San Antonio and graduated from John Jay High School in 1976. He was actively involved in all class alumni. GO MUSTANGS! He moved to Houston where he met the love of his life, Ken Gustavsson. They shared a life together for the past 28 years and were married in Long Beach California, County of Los Angeles, on December 19, 2013.

Rene received a Bachelor’s Degree in finance and a Master’s Degree in project management. He was a proud member of the DIANA Foundation, a non-profit organization, EPAH, the Four Seasons Social Club, and, previously, a Miss Camp USA organization. Rene was a constant competitor in photography with Dalton DeHart, taking hundreds of photos at social events.

Rene is predeceased by his father, David W. Weaver, Sr. and stepmother, Gwen R. Weaver, nephew Joseph LaCourse, and brother-in-law, Frank Janacki. He is survived by his husband, Ken, mother Lucy, father Manuel, sisters Kim, Janine, Honey, and Brenda; brothers David, Michael, Mark, Kirk, and Kenny, aunt Jane and uncle Workman, aunt Angie Ramirez, uncle Gilbert Verastvegui, their children/dogs, Presley, Max, Stella, and Hope II, countless nieces and nephews, and their children and extended family including Michelle and Sergio Cruz, Patrick Dickson, Bradley O’Furey, Stewart Ruttan, and Robert Johnson.

On behalf of Ken and the family, we would like to extend our sincere appreciation for the support, generosity and love during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the DIANA Foundation in memory of Rene.

Services are under the direction of Pat H. Foley & Co. Funeral Directors. The management and staff are honored to be of service. Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2015 at 5 p.m. concluding at 8 p.m.

Funeral services for Rene Weaver will begin at 12 noon on Sunday, September 13, 2015, in the Chapel of the Garden at Pat H. Foley & Co. Funeral Directors.

Interment will be held at Houston National Cemetery at a later date.
