HSYD Announces Bipartisan Effort to Defend HERO

Houston Stonewall Young Democrats and Log Cabin Republicans of Houston form Partnership to Defend Houston Equal Rights Ordinance

Houston, TEXAS – The Houston Stonewall Young Democrats and Log Cabin Republicans of Houston are proud to announce a bipartisan partnership to ensure the Houston Equal Rights Ordinance is upheld in the November 2015 municipal election.

As Democrats and Republicans we differ on many issues, but as Houstonians we know the Houston Equal Rights Ordinance will serve our city well and make it so that all Houstonians may have the freedom to live, work, and prosper in a city free from discrimination.

As the city continues to grow and gain national attention we believe Houston should lead on matters of freedom, equality, and diversity. That is why we stand with the overwhelming number of fortune five hundred companies, small businesses, and community organizations that have voiced support for the ordinance.

As the fourth largest city in the nation we believe this law strengthens our community. Should the ordinance be repealed we believe Houston will see overwhelming fallout among businesses and suffer irreversible economic consequences.

While this partnership does not equate to an endorsement of either organization, nor its past, present or future actions at the local, state, or federal level, we come together on common ground to support the Houston Equal Rights Ordinance because we believe the law promotes strong fiscal public policy and makes Houston even greater.

Over the next few months we look forward to working together and ensuring the Houston Equal Rights Ordinance remains the law of the land.
