The Rebellion of Miss Lucy Ann Lobdell

RebellionOfLucyAuthor: William Klaber
Review by Angel Curtis

Lucy Ann Lobdell was a nineteenth-century woman who decided to escape from the constraints placed on her life by living as a man. She spent most of her adult life disguised as a man and married another woman after her soon-to-be wife freed Lucy from jail when she was imprisoned for wearing men’s clothes. She was so notorious that the New York Times ran an obituary headlined “Death of a Modern Diana.” Over time, Lucy was forgotten until William Klaber bought an old farmhouse, found a satchel, and decided to tell Lucy’s story as a fictional memoir. This book is too good to miss.
