The Gay Agenda — December

A drive to create: Kiki Neumann and her license-plate artistry.

Life on the Inside Kiki Neumann couldn’t sleep very well last month. That’s because she’s planning to exhibit her massively popular folk-art creations in a real live gallery. Hardy & Nance Studios’ Group Showing features Neumann’s license-plate creations as well as work by various artists-in-residence. Painters, photographers, videographers, sculptors, jewelry makers, and other artists throw open their doors and invite viewers in for “a peek behind the curtain.” • “I haven’t done very many gallery/studio wall-hanging-type art shows . . . I am more of a festival-and-on-the-street artist, about fifteen years of being in tents, tables, or small 10×10 spots,” Neumann explains. “It feels like letting the cat come in after being outside most of its life. How do I behave? This is a radical change to be on a ‘wall.’ I think I am going to like it.” We think so, too. December 15. Hardy & Nance Studios, 902 Hardy St. • kikineumann.com.
