She may have made her living performing out of the spotlight for the last 18 years as a backup singer for Madonna, but on May 19, vocalist Niki Haris takes center stage at the 15th Annual HRC Houston Gala Dinner.
In addition to providing vocal support for Madonna, her voice can also be heard behind the hits of Ray Charles, David Sanborn, Patrice Rushen, Michael Sembello, Jazz Crusaders’ Wilton Felder, Stanley Turrentine, the Righteous Brothers, Julian Lennon, Anita Baker, Mick Jagger, and Whitney Houston. In addition to her musical prowess, Haris is also an accomplished choreographer responsible for not only many of Madonna’s dance moves, but also some of the memorable moves in the films Basic Instinct and Heat, as well as television’s Melrose Place.
The Washington DC-based LGBT lobbying group offers a number of ways supporters may contribute to the group’s efforts, beyond buying a ticket to the formal gala. Bottles of wine and other items are sought for the dinner’s silent auction. Corporate and individual sponsors are also sought, as well as advertisers for the event’s souvenir program book.
