Hawaii Civil Union Process to Go Online January 1

The Hawaii Department of Health has announced that the state civil union application process will go online at the start of the new year.

The agency said in a statement that the online application website will activate after midnight on January 1. That’s the day the state law allowing civil unions goes into effect.

The law allows same-sex and opposite-sex couples to enter into a civil union with the same state rights and responsibilities as a traditional marriage. The department’s state registrar says residents will be able to submit applications, pay fees, and receive civil union certificates online. —AP
