Mirrors: Portrait of a Lesbian Transsexual

Geri Nettick (now known as Beth Elliott)

This book is problematic. The introduction is insulting and disingenuous, the story stale, and the writing reeks of “as told to.” That being said, this tale of one woman’s journey to authenticity reveals yet another ugly facet of our lesbian feminist foremothers—they treated transgender people as badly as the National Organization for Women treated them. Read the book for that story—it will help you truly understand that “the personal is political.” And that politics are a bitch.
