Houston harmonies

Paige Lewis
One Good Day
A favorite among Houston audiences, this openly lesbian singer/songwriter is likely to get airplay with her fourth CD, particularly with the thoughtful “It Goes On,” the philosophical, multi-layered “Other Side,” and the optimistic title track. Good, solid, turn-up-the-volume-and-drive pop rock. (See “Finding Her Voice,” OutSmart, August 2011.) Cry Holy Music (thepaigelewis.com). —Review: Nancy Ford

Derek Mayo and Mike Burton
High Drawma! Soundtrack Vol. 1
Here we have the musical accompaniment to the web cartoon series that openly gay creator Mayo describes as “Dynasty meets Melrose Place meets Remington Steele.” Frenetic and pulsing, it’s also addictive, particularly “Make Love,” the collection’s opening salvo, as is the “Nitelyfe” supa-fly single. Bonus tracks are included in the online package. Independently produced (derekmayo.bandcamp.com). —Review: Nancy Ford
