New Forms Available for NYC Marriages
NEW YORK – Same-sex couples can start applying for marriage licenses in New York City using online forms that now feature gender-neutral terminology.
The Office of the City Clerk made new forms available on its website Tuesday.
The forms allow couples to enter information for “bride,” “groom” or the gender-neutral “spouse.” Previously, they only allowed for “bride” and “groom.”
Although couples can begin applying for the $35 licenses, they likely won’t be issued until July 25- the first business day after the state’s law legalizing gay marriage becomes active.
State law requires couples to wait 24 hours to wed, though a waiver can be requested of a judge.
New York legalized same-sex marriages on June 24.
