400 March at Honolulu Gay Pride Parade

HONOLULU – A pride parade celebrating Hawaii’s gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community was held last weekend.

Organizers say the Saturday parade began at 10 a.m. in Ala Moana, continued into Waikiki and ended at Kapiolani Park.

While small by the standards of many larger cities, the event was energetic and included 400 marchers, floats and bands.

Honolulu Pride scheduled Gov. Neil Abercrombie to speak at the park, and said Hawaii’s gay and lesbian community has a lot to celebrate this year.

Earlier this year Abercrombie signed same sex civil unions into law.
