Houston Pride Band Changes Artistic Directors

Jason Stephens, longtime artistic director of the Houston Pride Band, has announced he is putting down the baton in order to complete graduate school. The group’s assistant director, Skip Martin, is taking over the position of artistic director.

“While this news is disappointing, please know that Jason will still be very active in the band as a bassoonist and will assume the role of assistant director,” band president Ron Louvier said.

“We’re looking forward to the freshness that a change in leadership always brings and the depth of talent that Skip has only begun to share with us,” Louvier added. “So look for exciting music and performances in our 2011–2012 concert season.”

Houston Pride Band’s next concert, Americana, is scheduled June 11 in the Hobby Center’s Zilkha Hall and features the works of American composers. houstonprideband.org. —Nancy Ford
