Sub Rosa: Amber Dawn

Sub Rosa
By Amber Dawn

Amber Dawn (a should-be-better-known-here Canadian artist) starts the thinking-reader’s new year with her first novel. Little, a young runaway, is taken into a unique underground society made up of all the “fringes” of society. Once she completes her terrifying initiation into this world of magical prostitutes and mythic johns, she finds she must lead a journey quest so that the wrongs of society and life can be healed. While not specifically gay, the relationships between the women characters remind us of the “everything but” quality of so many female friendships. Part quest, part social commentary, and all stunning writing, this book is for everyone who likes a good story uniquely told. Arsenal Pulp Press (arsenalpulp.com). —Review: Angel Curtis
