Obituary-Michael Gaitz

Michael Gaitz passed away peacefully, surrounded by all those who loved him deeply, on the 31 of January 2011. Michael touched all our lives and soul and his presence in our life is a gift for which we will always be thankful.

Michael is preceded in death by his father, Adolph, and is survived by his mother, Oline Gaitz of Houston, Texas and his brother Charles Gaitz (Denise) of Houston, Texas and sister, Theresa Gaitz McKinney (Leon Kaplan) of Sugar Land, Texas; nephews Charles Eric Gaitz (Michelle,) Dietrich Gaitz, and Christopher McKinney, and nieces Tonya Gaitz and Stephanie McKinney; and grandnephew Charles Ethan Gaitz and grandniece Morgan Gaitz.

Michael, an Attorney at Law, was a graduate of St. Thomas High School, the University of St. Thomas, and South Texas College of Law.

Michael was the owner of Michael’s Outpost, the former owner of Mary’s Bar and the publisher of the Montrose Gem Community Newspaper. He volunteered for the Gay and Lesbian Switchboard and was involved in the Texas Gay Rodeo Association. He also sponsored a Montrose Softball League team and was involved in other community projects.

Visitation will be February 3 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home 12800 Westheimer Rd Houston, Texas to be followed at 7:00 p.m. by a Rosary Service. Funeral Services will be held February 4 at 10:00 a.m. at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home, Father Carl Belisch officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made in the name of Michael Gaitz to a charitable organization of your choice.
